About How to Choose Perfect Scratch Repair / Auto Touchup Paint

Have you experienced a scratch on your vehicle’s surface and are you worried about the removal of that scratch? Well don’t worry about that because there is a solution of this problem and this is known as touch up paint. In the process of scratch repair, the very first step is purchasing the right paint for your car. This step is not as easy as it seems and we will be giving an overview of the different types of paints and their uses and purposes.

There are generally five types of paints namely under coats, single stage, base coat, mid coats and clear coats.

1)Under coats
These are sometimes referred to as sealers, surfacers, primers or adhesion promoters. Under coats have further four more sub categories which are:

a)Anti corrosive primers
The main function of anti corrosive primers is to protect the surface from degradation due to the effects of corrosion.

b)Primer surfacers
Its main purpose is to provide a smooth surface by hiding defects such as small dents, chips and scratches.

c)Primer sealers
It is used to provide a smooth non porous foundation for color to be applied over. They are usually low in viscosity to ensure smooth application without sanding

d)Adhesion promoters
It is the type of under coat which is used to ensure adhesion of subsequent layers to a surface.

2)Single stage
Single stage coats are also known as one stage, mono coat or direct gloss. They are used to achieve the final gloss of the surface without the use of clear coat.

3)Base coats
This paint is also known as base or base color. These are the type of auto paint which requires the application of clear coating to get the required gloss of the surface.

4)Mid coats
These are the types of auto paints which create a different and unique color effect by applying a semi transparent color layer over the base coat layer. Using of mid coats is also referred to as three stage coating.

5)Clear coats
Clear coat is one of the most important types of vehicle paint and it plays the largest role in determining the final appearance and durability of base clear system.

By knowing the types of vehicle paint, you can easily understand which are the paints required in your scratch repair process and you have to chose yourself that whether you are going for a two coat or a three coat paint.
